WHAT IS IT?

the territory system is what sets venom's gate 2 apart from all other sites in the fantasy genre and predecessors. it allows you, the members, to compete for ownership of the different places in venom's gate as individuals or as organized groups to move towards great influence and power in the city, as well as opening many new windows for character and member interaction.

sound complicated? don't worry, it's really quite simple! read on:

ACQUIRING TERRITORIES

every board on venom's gate is a territory, and there are several ways to acquire them.

CLAIMING: if there is a territory that is not owned by anyone, post an in character thread there. only after you have roleplayed in a place (posted a second time in said thread after another member's response) can you post a claiming thread in the board, stating that it is owned by you and linking to the IC posts. when this is done, alert staff members of the claim in the MEMO BOX board. the staff will then list you as the owner of that territory. easy as that.
each character can only claim one territory, for a gang or not.
without a gang (gang defined as three members) an individual can only own one territory.

CHALLENGING: if you have your eye on a territory that someone else already has, you may challenge for that territory. this will include a battle thread between the owner and the challenger (if a party is a gang, then the leader a chosen representative of the gang will fight). the terms of the battle (number of posts, word limits, number of attacks and dodges) must be set and agreed upon by the challenger and defender and posted in the challenge thread. when the battle is complete, staff judges will look over the posts, and, based on roleplaying ability, will select a winner. a battle can also be lost by any member who does not respond to the battle after seven days. the winner receives the territory and any other bounty set by the terms of the battle. if the challenger wins the battle, they must post a new thread in the territory stating it is claimed by them, and alert the staff via the Memo box.

SELECTING A TERRITORY

a gang can own as many territories on venom's gate as you can get and keep a hold of, but there are limitations as to which ones you can own. lycan characters and lycan gangs cannot own vampire lands, and vice versa. anyone can own neutral lands (downtown and shoreline). gangs made up of both immortal races are limited to neutral lands, as are human ones. Lycan+human gangs can own lycan lands as long as there are no vampires in the gang, and vice versa.

RULING A TERRITORY

how you run your territory is up to you. any member can post on your board, but it is the owning character's or gang's decision on how to deal with visitors. owning territories increases your character or gang's prestige in the site and in the city and allows for a lot more roleplay and interaction between a wider range of characters and members. the owner of a territory has the privilege to replying to any thread in their territory, private or public.

JOINING A GANG

Go to the gangs board and look through open gangs, or start your own. since three characters are required for a full-fledged gang, this board may have threads looking for the first couple of gang members. if you don't want to create a gang or join a young one,
the gang directory has a list of already established gangs you could look into.

if you own a territory as an individual, and join a gang, that gang acquires your territory. in this instance, alert the staff via the memo box. you may switch gangs if you like, but any territory you had before joining the first stays with the gang.

HANGOUTS

to acquire a territory, your gang requires three different characters played by three different members. to acquire a hangout, a personalized board for your gang, you need ten. a hangout is a special board that the gang leader names and designs them self and is the special area for their gang. it can be placed in any part of the city.
